Stormtalon (WIP)

Assembled the Stormtalon, with Skyhammer missiles.

Somehow reminds me of that Venom chopper from M.A.S.K. ... or a GI Joe toy. In a good / nostalgic kind of way.

The ass cannons turrent and thrusters can be swivelved. Ass cannon able to pivot up and down too, but is a bit too loose, so it ends up pointing down all the time.

This new kit is very good - very little visible mould lines / flash, well-defined detail. Way easier to cut parts off the sprue as they are held there by thinner bits.

Laid down the base colours for the Stormtalon (Blood Ravens scheme). Or: lazy way to get it to tabletop quality.

Forum sifus:

I'm struggling with painting the clear canopy support struts.

My stormtalon was basecoated black, before blood red was applied over it. The canopy can't be base-coated, and blood red on it looks way too bright in comparison.

Am I supposed to paint the struts in chaos black first, then blood red?

Even then, how can I get the paint to stay on the plastic canopy? Seems awfully easy to scrape off...

I saw something similar on BOLS....but I like your blood red colour.
About the canopy....try a wash. At least it will maintain the see through look with darker shades going into the creases.
I haven't tried it before...but if things go wrong, you can go to plan B, spray chaos black and base coat blood red.

for the struts - paint it black 1st.. carefully. Once done, the rest is alot easier to do.

LordAK - found a way to paint the canopy. Since it's opaque, I just outlined the interior in black, then painted the same outline in the exterior with Blood Red.

Doc - don't think I'll do a wash. Canopy plastic is blurry enough, can't even see the techmarine pilot inside properly as it is.

Diif2find - Come to think of it, this does look like an Inner Sphere Catapult!

modify the legs and make is into a mad cat.. put a whirlwind launcher

hmm for some reason the legs looks a bit too fragilish to hold such a bulky top. But apart from that i love the red!
