PostSubject: DWDW - DWolve's DeathWings   Tue Nov 19, 2013 5:43 pm

Don't mind me posting here since I am planning a Deathwing Squad myself.

I looking at starting with 750 points first before moving to 1500 points and on.
HQ: Belial (190 points)
Troop 1: 5 Termies with all chainfist upgrade and Assault Cannon (265 points)
Troop 2: 5 Termies with all chainfist upgrade and Cyclone Launcher (270 points)
Total: 725 Points
Possible Substitute: Belial for Azreal (25 point increase)

For 1500 points, I'm also looking at theoretically adding possibly the following.
Troop 3: Same as troop 1 (265 points)
Troop 4: Same as troop 1 (265 points)
Land Raider Redeemer (245)
Possible Substitute: 1 Troop for 2 Venerable Dreadnought

Btw, a review on the organization indicates 4 termies and 1 sergeant. Assuming the sergeant is compulsory for a new troop, then I need to minus 5 points from each termie troop since the sergeant will be carrying a sword instead.

People usually take 1 or 2 Chainfist only for every 5 man Termies. I myself took only one in my 5 man termies and the guy never get to use the chain part of the fist at all in games I had so far. So I suggest you keep it at 1 or 2 only. That ay you can save up 10 - 15 points per squad.

Sounds like a solid plan since that would allow me to upgrade my land raider in my 1500 army.

However, I'm in need of advice between assault cannon and cyclone missile.
I'm picking the cannon since I get 4 dice, range and can snap if I move.

Cyclone Missile Launcher is better cause of superior range and strength but if you plan on being close to someone Assault Cannon is just as good. You can play 1 Assault Cannon Squad and 1 Cyclone Squad for a good mix. The Cyclone can be camping at the back and shooting at tanks while the Assault Cannon is forward shooting infantry and tanks only if you really have to. You never snapfire cause you are Relentless. You move and shoot at full BS always.

He must mean when overwatch I think.

I prefer Plasma Cannon more than Assault Cannon or Cyclone.

But if I play Belial, I might take a 10 man unit with 2 Assault Cannon. But can you take 10 man?

Shaun: Relentless? I'm afraid I don't see that anywhere as Deathwings only have Deathwing Assault, Inner Circle, Split Fire and Vengeful Strike rules.

LordAK: It's more of the fact that Heavy weapons are only snap shots if your units moved. Plus the you can still shoot in overwatch (Assault Cannon-Heavy 4 vs Plasma Cannon-Heavy 1 vs Cyclone missile-Heavy 2). 10 man option is possible in a 1500 point which I'd prefer to have 4 troop instead of 2.

Plus side of cyclones would be that you still have the use of storm bolters (assault 2) which would be the only virtue I find useful if compared against assault cannons and plasma cannons.

All Terminators are relentless.. They can move and shoot Heavy Weapons without any penalty to BS. No worries.

The most versatile weapons are Cyclone of course. I like the Plasma Cannons because it looks good and no one is really safe from the AP2 goodness!

DA cannot Combat Squads? Other wise it is always better to take 10 man squad so you limit your Kill Points in Purge The Aliens. But in all other missions, Combat Squad them into 2 units so you have more Scorings.

Thanks LordAK. The squad arrangement tip is certainly useful.

Just saw the entry for the Terminator armour. My mistake. The relentless rule certainly makes the Heavy weapons much sweeter.

Which gets me thinking... In overwatch, Assault cannon can snap. Plasma cannon and cyclone frag missile can't. Could I still snap with Cyclone krak missile since it is not blast?

Also, anyone knows where is the stats for storm shield?

I'm looking at a possibility of the following 5 man squad.
Rampage squad: 5 termies with lightning claws + cyclone (245 points)
Fortification squad: 5 termies with storm shield and thunder hammer + cyclone (280 points)

Cyclones can snapfire and overwatch with the Krak Missile.

Storm Shield - If no entry in the C:DA, then must be in the wargear section of the BGB.

As for the Assault Terminators - Fortification squad all the way. Nasty stuffs TH&SS.

Just found the entry for Storm Shield in C:DA. +3 inv saves.

Thanks LordAK. Was looking at the armoury all the while.

What are the key difference in the 3 choices of available Land Raiders? So far I've seen only the weapons loadout are different. Anything I should take note about them?

Noted. Time to get myself Belial since I technically have my units already for my 750 Deathwing Squad.

Troop 1: 5 termies with assault cannon and 2 chain fist from Dark Vengeance Set
Troop 2: 5 termies with cyclone missile and 1 chain fist proxy from my Death Angels set

I'm in need of opinion for my Deathwing Company.

I'm building them towards the apocalypse formation Deathwing Redemption Force.

Any suggestions?

Yup. He's my HQ since Azreal and him are the only ones that allows Terminators to be fielded as troops.

Sure thing. I would love to test out and see how. Getting ready for Wira's amateur league at the moment. Will need trial run and at the same time get to learn the rules better.
