WM/H Campaign: IronFront - Glimmerwood

Welcome to IronFront – Glimmerwood, a Warmachine Campaign that invokes battles of Honour and Courage! Can you safeguard the sanctity of The Calderan League’s relic and maintain world balance? Can you crush the enemy and fulfil The Gears of Fate’s agenda? The future of Western Immoren is in your hands!


A bunch of buddies and I are planning to run a Warmachine Campaign called "IronFront - Glimmerwood". The Warboss and Grots at Hobby Forge have offered their tables and chairs and I am thankful for that! It will be held every Saturday for 4 weeks from April 26th to May 17th.

Since this is a campaign, a few restrictions and additional rules will be enforced to promote a narrative element. I will be sending out further details soon but the gist of the campaign is as follows:

- Territorial-Based Map
- Team A vs Team B
- 3 Phases per Campaign Turn
- Gameplay affected by army’s supply and weather/terrain effects
- A phase that allows a player to sabotage the opposing team
- Bonding Rules apply
- In-Faction force only
- Mercenaries obtainable but with restrictions
- 35 pt battles for the first 2 weeks, 50 pt battles for the last 2 weeks
- Only battlegroup MUST be fully painted
- And more!

As Facebook is a terrible place to archive info in one place, I plan to use this thread as a central to maintain news, battle accounts, discussions and also (maybe) pictures for the campaign. Hopefully with this initiative, non-participants interested is able to keep up with the campaign turn of events.

WEEK 1

It’s been 4 days since The Gears of Fate’s onslaught into Glimmerwood. Key fortresses have been captured by the Gears of Fate, converting it into depots to supply troops for the IronFront. Mercenaries have offered their hand in contribution for each side, wanting to fulfill their objectives in the process.

Unbeknownst to the Gears of Fate, the Calderan League has decided to strike deep into the Gears of Fate’s controlled territory in a shock-and-awe mission during an unexpected time.

Pre-Battle Phase



eCaine (Salleh) was summoned to perform his duties by the General of the Calderan League, with the aid of Harlan Versh. Caught by surprise, Iron Lich Asphyxious (Azfar) did not manage to muster his troops in time and fought to defend Triton while under Out-of-Supply (1). Despite massive Arcane Tempest Gun Mages casualties due to Bile Thrall purging, the shock-and-awe tactic worked, forcing Asphyxious to retreat.

Before handing out a printed copy of the Campaign Rules for reading leisure, I’d like to take a moment here to brief the IronFront participants on the general rules of list-building for this campaign.

- Players are required to choose a Faction and Warcaster/Warlock of choice by 18th April. This faction and character will be played throughout the campaign.
- Week 1 & 2: 35pts
- Week 3 & 4: 50pts
- In Week 3 or Week 4, Players may opt to switch for a different Warcaster/Warlock that is in the same Faction. This switch can only be done once throughout the life of the campaign.

- Unlike a normal game, the following models are restricted.
1) Non-IronFront Mercenary Solos and/or Units (unless army is based on a Mercenary Contract or a Minion Pact)
2) Character Warjacks/Warbeasts
3) Battle Engine/War Engine & Huge-Based Warcaster/Warlocks
4) Colossals/Gargantuans
- Week 2: Item 2 is unrestricted
- Week 3: Item 2 & 3 are unrestricted
- Week 4: Item 2, 3 & 4 are unrestricted

- Bonding Rules as per rulebook apply, but the qualifying value is reduced from 7 to 6.

- Each team have 5 IronFront Mercenaries exclusive to each team and one can be included in your army free of charge during the Battle Phase.
- Identity of the IronFront Mercenaries will be released after team members have been decided.

I’d also like to call for a pre-campaign meeting on the 18th April. This meeting is to ensure everyone is aware of the commitments that they need to adhere to and to make sure everyone understands the campaign format, which will be fully explained on this day itself. This is also an opportunity for me to collect the Entry Fee, so be prepared!

As revealed earlier, IronFront – Glimmerwood will be a battle between the ruthless Gears of Fate (Attackers) against the secretive Calderan League (Defenders). Since this is a team-based campaign, the team sign-ups are now open for membership! Can the Calderan League’s relic be safeguarded? Will the Gears of Fate’s agenda(s) be fulfilled? You will decide!

Once a team reaches 5 members, the remaining players will be allocated automatically to the other team. To choose a team, STRICTLY PM (facebook) or WHATSAPP me your choice. I will release the info once a team is filled.

The General’s task is to lead the warfront, making sure his Commanders execute his plans accordingly, and coordinate acts of saboteurism during the Strategic Phase. The Deputy General takes the role of the General should the General not be able to turn up during the Campaign Week.

The IronFront Mercenaries will be revealed soon.

Although Mercenaries are banned in this campaign, Mercenaries can still be played in the form of IronFront Mercenaries.

Five playable IronFront Mercenaries are allocated to each team for their usage. These Mercenaries can be distributed across the map via rail lines and be added into the Commander’s games for free of charge with all restrictions and animosities lifted. However, depending on the outcome, death may result in it being permanently removed from the game.

Raluk Moorclaw, a mercenary from the Five Fingers has been approached by a mysterious client for an objective not many people know off. Keen to rise up the ranks to increase his fee, Raluk has taken the opportunity to do so by accepting his client’s fruitfull offer.

With the discoverance of the Lost Pages of the Enkheiridion, Lanyssa was given hope that its power might be enough to reverse some of the devastation Everblight has brought upon her people and land. With this in mind, Lanyssa is willing to put all hostilities aside in order to protect what is able to save her race.

2. Viktor Pendrake
Professor Viktor Pendrake is known across the Iron Kingdom for his scholarly acumen. With the recent rumour of the Lost Pages of the Enkheiridion being held by a secret sect, Viktor Pendrake is very keen to discover what secrets of Western Immoren that lies within it.

2. Alten Ashley
Realising some influential individuals playing key roles in the Gears of Fate’s force, the Calderan League have hired one of the most exceptional hunter in the Western Immoren to stalk and hunt down these characters to put the tide back in their favour.

3. Orin Midwinter
Vinter Raelthorne’s spies have infiltrated intelligence networks in the Iron Kingdom Nations at levels beyond expectations. Upon discovering the Lost Pages of the Enkheiridion, Vinter has tasked the Rogue Inquisitor, Orin Midwinter, to claim it on his behalf to unveil secrets that can be used to regain his rightful throne.

3. Saxon Orrik
Saxon Orrik hates Viktor Pendrake for being a whistleblower that ruined his military career under the then King Vinter Raelthorne. Upon learning of Viktor Pendrake’s involvement in the Gears of Fate, Saxon Orrik unbelievably managed to infiltrate his way through the Calderan League, met its leaders and offered himself to help defend its relic as long as he is given Viktor Pendrake alive.

4. Croak Hunter
Being new to Western Immoren, the Annura (Croaks) needs to leave a lasting impression. They will do whatever it takes to show that they are a race strong enough to hold on its own.

4. Ogrun Bokur
Not much is known about this nameless mute Ogrun Bokur. Witnesses claim to have seen many skulls being carried as trophies, likely indicating the Bokur’s successes with his battles.

5. Thrullg
Not many things are known about this dangerous creature and its potential. Having captured one recently and realizing it might be a valuable asset to the war front, the Gears of Fate have decided to use a Thrullg to fulfill their agenda in times of need.

5. Harlan Versh
Harlan Versh came to the attention of the Calderan League when he tracked down and destroyed Thamarites operating in the outskirts of a mountain village. Should the Lost Pages of the Enkheiridion be revealed to the world, the balance of the Iron Kingdom religions will be affected. In the interest of the Church of Morrow, Harlan Versh has sided with the Calderan League to ensure the Lost Pages of the Enkheiridion will forever be kept a secret.

*BREAKING*

Got some bad news from the (iron)front. King Leto has decided to summon Shahreza to a series of commitments and responsibilities. Rather than risking the info of the Calderan League’s existence being leaked to King Leto, Shahreza has decided to pull out from the Campaign after some discussions with the inner members of the Calderan League.

AP’s recent victories have also brought the Calderan League some major problems. His boss, Everblight, is keen to take advantage of this momentum and has given AP tonnes of workload for him to handle. As such, AP will be sitting out of this campaign in order fulfill his boss’ needs.

With the 2 breaking news above, the Gears of Fate are confident victory is within their hands and the Lost Pages of the Enkheiridion are within their grasp. However in a shocking twist, scouting reports indicate that 1 famous figure is unexpectedly in The Calderan League while another has stepped out from the shadows and not much is known about this individual.

The following is the gist of the Campaign map and win conditions.

The campaign begins 4 days after The Gears of Fate’s onslaught into Glimmerwood and last 4 Campaign Turns. The IronFront – Glimmerwood campaign map forms the playing board for the campaign.



The map is divided into 4 territories: Plains, Hills, Forests and Marshes. Each area has a Control Indicator to show which side is in control of the area at the start of the Campaign Turn.



All fortresses and some areas are highlighted with Victory Points. These are objectives and will determine the outcome of the Campaign. Certain fortresses across the map are also indicated as Supply Depots. These fortresses and the rail lines that link them to the rest of the map are crucial in keeping your troops fighting well.



At the end of each campaign turn, Campaign Victory Points earned from capturing objective territories and destroyed IronFront Mercenaries are tallied to determine the current state of the campaign. The Victory Points Indicator above indicates the current campaign state at the start of the Campaign. By the end of Campaign Turn 4, a team wins if they have more Campaign Victory Points than the opposing team.

As mentioned before, the rail lines linking to territories is crucial in keeping your troops fighting well.

A territory is deemed "In Supply" if the rail lines connecting to it are
- in territories currently occupied by your team and,
- connected to a Supply Depot currently in your team's possession

If a territory is cut from its supply due enemy occupation in the territory with a linking rail line, the territory is deemed "Out of Supply". The team currently occupying that territory will be subjected to "Out of Supply" penalties as per below.

Some territories fought in this campaign are subjected to certain terrain effects as per indicated by the Campaign Map. When a territory fought indicates a certain terrain condition, consult table below for applied game modifier.



*For the purpose of terrain modifiers, Fortresses are treated as Plains (i.e. no effect).*

*IRONFRONT - GLIMMERWOOD ANNOUNCEMENT*

Due to low turnouts for this campaign and in the interest of saving people the hassle of considering this in their Saturdays schedules, it is with great sadness that I will unfortunately have to CANCEL this Campaign.

This has turned out to be a great adventure for me, from prospecting for a suitable Campaign Systems down to the printing of the physical map. I have learnt a lot along the way and although this did not turned out as expected, I have reaffirmed myself that yes, Warmachine CAN indeed be played as a Narrative similar to WH40K/WHFB! Similar to any real-life situations, there are room for improvements and I will update the Campaign Document and summarise what I can suggest in a separate post (likely in the PP forums to get a wider feedback).
