Necron 2013 - Initializing D-Protocol

After my 1st game v/s AK prior to The Chosen & from the exp playing Necron in tournament settings, I realized that they are not a relatively ez army to play especially when they are not played to their strength coupled with severe time restriction plus my own lack of exp.

The Necron flyers, while they are awesome, are actually quite difficult to manouver especially when they don't have the Hover option. The Jetfighter Doom Scythe, while having an awesome Death Ray, can't use it to hit other zooming flyers/FMCs. At 175pts, that is not a very reliable investment. Still, I had fun using it to destroy enemy LRC & Speeders with the Death Ray shot hehe !

So, for 2013, I'd stick to Necron for a bit, maybe allying with Chaos in some cases, or again with GK (no Callidus Assassin this time - she was so unreliable in the tournament what a waste of 145pts !!)

The D-Protocol mentioned above is my proposed list that would probably take an entire year to complete, due to the $ & time to be spent on it. The fluff for it would be something like this:

Having suffered terrible losses in the previous campaign on planet LM2012, the silent Necron Overlord Szerah ed-Nagash succumbed to terrible physical & mental agony.

The human 'ally' could not be depended upon during the campaign. Their failures have proven their weak flesh is unworthy to be harvested.

Angered & despaired, the soulless king orders his Crypteks together with the Canoptek Wraiths to recronstuct his unhallowed metallic body into that of an embodiment of oblivion, death & destruction.

He even forces his own loyal Vargard Sethy to be recontructed in the same fashion as a 'reward' for his loyalty.

D-Protocol is now in effect.

From the steaming forge-catacombs vault, the silent laughter of Destroyer Lord Szerah ed-Nagash could be felt mercilessly.

I dunno how powerful is the list, but I certainly like the fluff, very in-character =D

It is a good list, though very straight forward and easy to read. If opponent failed to stop the Wraith unit, they'll lose. And there's nothing much that can stop that combo in time before they reach combat.

After chosen, I realized that Necrons are very cheeze indeed. So I'll be putting them to sleep for a while. If you need anything for gaming, just drop by bro..

hahaah... agreed on the Necron cheeze.

anyway, for Din's sake. this list will sure own any average lists out there.

my necrons which only have 1 destroyer lord, 6 wraiths and 2 annihilation barges without any flyers have been winning so constantly, i'm sure your list lagi terror.

wah... sounds like you had 3 games won very easily. your rolls were pretty good since 10 came back out of 12 casualties. lucky didn't get to meet you. hehehehe

But that is the only succesfull RP. The rest of RP was below average, lucky I didn't have to do so much more RP. Though I had to agree, my roll was quite good lah with only 2 deepstike mishaps throughout the 3 games.

I'm very lucky I didn't face you, Syamel (coz I actually taught him how to beat Necrons hahaha) nor any of the IGs (Template scares me). Seriously, I'd be happy to fight your Daemons bro. If just to measure how far is the cheese level between Necrons and the current Daemons.

Back to Din's list. I think the Necron Warriors should be fielded in 1 big 15 man squad. Much better than 10+5 coz at 15 man, they have better chance to survive a shooting phase for RP. I used to play 2x5 Immortals with Tesla Carbine. But not anymore as more often than not, they got wiped out in a shooting phase.

12 Wraiths are quite scary right hehehe! Just like facing 2 full sqds of TWCs or Biker-Nobz !

The 1st list is for bullying people around. 2nd list is more friendly. 2nd list is good.

Spells: 1st choice would be from the Telekinesis discipline, especially Invisibility!!

In the Chosen tournament my Inquisitor Coteaz managed to get the Invisibility spell twice in game 2 & 3, thus enabling my rhino/GK Strike Sqd to benefit from 4+ cover in the open or 2+ cover behind trees/ruins/hills/craters.

AWESOME!!

Full Necrons are better I think.

After looking at several betrep at other forum as well as AK's own encounter v/s another Necron (Mark's?), I found that Wraiths without attached character (D-Lord or Ov-Lord) are not as deadly in combat.

Without the character to support the Wraiths with his MSS magic trick + Scything the enemy, the Wraith will have a harder time fighting against a full-blown heavy infantry close combat specialist units that can either ID them such as TH-SS assault termies & Paladins, or have horrendous numbers of attacks like the DC Marines or Bloodcrushers..etc..

Wraiths are good enough. Summore nothing can win against TH/SS Termies nor Paladin aniway, so why bother comparing them together.

But with Destroyer Lord, they are much better in terms of survivability (2+ armour to tank against S8+ AP3+) and CC (Mindshackle and Prefered Enemy).

yea, from my gaming exp with wraiths. always run them with destroyer lord.
of coz that means you can't take 2 royal courts which is a bumper as they are quite powerful. eg:

- deathmarks with 2 abyssal staff crypteks on a night scythe
- lych guards with 2 chronometron crypteks
- 20 warriors with 2 lightning fields crypteks
- multiple small 5 warriors squad with 2 eldritch lances each
- self sustain unit with 1 lord with orb and a veil of darkness cryptek

The funny thing is that from what i've read from the other forums (dakka dakka, warseer, B&C), majority of them critisize the taking of RO for a D-Lords whom are joining Wraiths sqds. They argued that 30pts are too much to be spent just to increase the probability of 1 guy to reanimate.

From my own exp using my footslogging Ov-Lord, every possible investment to keep my Warlord from dying is well worth it, & this is even more crucial especially since the D-Lord doesn't have any invul sv to boot!!

@Joe: My favourite Cryptek is the Harbinger of The Storm with Voltaic Staff & Lightning Field. In The Chosen, his S5 Assault 4 haywire shots were responsible in peeling off a LRC hull points like swiss cheese!!

What's more, to upgrade the Crypteks to Harbingers of The Storm will not cost me any extra pts i.e free upgrades !

Well bro.. my Destroyer Lord almost never take any RO hahaha..
Anything with haywire is great. and when the thing came with Assault 4 --> Much better hahaha..
