PostSubject: Re: Fresh from the box: High Elves   Fresh from the box: High Elves - Page 2 EmptyFri Nov 15, 2013 7:39 pm

Ran this tonight and it was a brutal affair against one of my kind.

1000 points.

General: Archmage (Level 3 Lore of Beasts) = 185

Hero: Noble on Griffon, wearing Dragon Armour and Enchanted Shield, wielding Biting Blade = 245

Core:

Lothern Sea Guard x20 with shields and Full Command = 270

Ellyrian Reavers x5 replacing spears with bows (2 units) = 170

Special:

Swordmasters of Hoeth x10 = 130

Total: 1000 on the dot.

It was a game full of mistakes but this list held out against a Swordmaster death star (by a thin thread, only the griffon riding Noble was left at the end of it).

A few highlights of the game:

The Archmage turned into a S8 T8 Great Fire Dragon. But was killed via overrun. Ngeh.

Next time, I'll run the Beast Archmage on his own lonesome while he tries desperately to turn into a dragon to wreak havoc and mayhem. OR I should've left the unit ASAP after changing during the remaining moves phase.

The griffon noble. That thing was a beast. The Thunderstomp really brought upon a world of pain and the fact that it was flying was really awesome and nifty.

MVP: Ellyrian Reavers. 1 unit died on arrival due to concentrated fire. Maybe I should've deployed it differently, but in the end, it DID eat up an initial hail of bow fire that could've caused a lot of trouble to my griffon noble that was trying to get a good flanking position on turn 1.

The other unit was boss. Slowly harassing and whittling away at the Swordmasters until their first and final charge to kill off the other Archmage, at the cost of their lives as they were cut to ribbons by a Swordmaster champion.

PostSubject: Re: Fresh from the box: High Elves   Fresh from the box: High Elves - Page 2 EmptyMon Nov 18, 2013 7:10 am

New rendition based on a few factors:

a) How many months it'll take to complete it from buying a box a month.
b) How much fun I'll have painting it.
c) How cool it'll all look in the end.

The original idea of a cool Dragon Prince of Caledor based army crumbled when it took a long time to complete my current 1 unit. I shudder at thinking of assembling and painting another 16 of those things >.<

2.5K:

Characters:

(Gen) Prince on STAR DRAGON wearing Dragon Armour, Enchanted Shield, wielding Giant Blade = 615

(BSB) Noble on Elven Steed with Ilthimar Barding, wearing Dragon Armour and shield = 122

Dragon Mage (Level 1 Lore of Fire) on Sun Dragon (complementary) wearing Dragon Armour and Charmed Shield = 365

Mage (Level 2 Lore of Beasts) = 120

Core:

Lothern Sea Guard x16 with shield and full command = 222
Lothern Sea Guard x17 with shield and full command = 234
Ellyrian Reavers x5 replaced spears with bows with musician (2 units) = 95(190)

Special:

Swordmasters of Hoeth x11 + Bladelord = 153
Dragon Princes of Caledor x5 + Drakemaster = 155

Rare:

Frostheart Phoenix = 240
Sisters of Avelorn x6 = 84

Only 2-4 months to go to complete this list. Arrrrr....

3 type jer Razz. The Moon Dragon is the baseline dragon that's similar to other factions with WS/S/T/W 6. Star Dragon is 7's and nasty. The only thing nastier is if the Beast Mage turns into a Great Fire Dragon with 8's. So technically can get 3 dragons on the table if the spell selection roll goes in my favour.

Had a 1.5k game with Skaven at CCDJ last night, with this list:

Archmage, Level 4 Lore of High Magic, Talisman of Protection
Noble BSB on griffon with heavy armour, lion cloak and shield
Mage Level 2 Lore of Beasts (didn't get to roll for Transformation of Kadon this time Sad)
Lothern Sea Guards with shield x 15 and full command
2x Ellyrian Reavers x5 replaced spears with bows
Dragon Princes of Caledor x5 with champion and Warrior Bane Sword
2x Swordmasters of Hoeth x10 with full command.

against

20x Clanrats, full command and poison wind mortar
50x Clanrats, full command and warpfire thrower
50x Slaves
6x Rat Ogres with Master Moulder
1x Hell Pit Abomination
Level 2 Warlock Engineer
Grey Seer

It was a win for the slender folk, though a very embarrassing turn of events happened. While the skavens managed to misfire on the poison wind mortar on their first turn, the Dragon Princes lost 2 of their number to.... trees.

Hitting a 6+ Ward Save was also impossible to them, causing 2 of them to have their throats impaled by sharp branches and made them take a panic test, which they passed. If they had fled, that would be even more disastrous for my debut deployment of this regiment.

The slaves masterfully took the brunt of my firepower and tied up both my Swordmaster units, but the other big blocks of clanrats were waylaid by the smaller elements of my army, like that griffon dude, pinning them down and preventing a counter charge (phew!)

We got a lot of the rules wrong, particularly about terrain as I looked back and reread the book. But I'll get better at it with more games under my belt.

So early? I can be there soonest by 8.30. Traffic from Putrajaya-Puchong-Kelana Jaya is like hell before 8 pm and I don't know any easier alternative route.

How many points are we doing?

8.30 is okay. 1.5k? Since I can field an all painted army with those (which is almost everything I own) Razz

p/s: If you're staying at Putrajaya we can have a random night weekend game as well. I stay at Presint 11 (though with no space nor terrain to play with at this time).

Thinking up of a 2k list for tonight's game with limited models is quite a challenge. Spent a boatload of unnecessary stuff for 4 characters and stuff, but at the end of the day, I just hope to survive the Black guards and crossbow bolts and what-have-you. In the end.... this weird list came out:

Lord:
Beast Archmage, Level 4 with Channeling Staff
High Magic Archmage, Level 4 with Talisman of Protection

Okay.... so that's... 500 points. Hmmm....

Heroes:
(Gen) Noble on Griffon, with heavy armour, lance, Enchanted Shield, Potion of Foolhardiness
(BSB) Noble on Griffon, with heavy armour, lance, Charmed Shield

So that's another 500. According to the BRB I can nominate the guy with the highest Ld as my General AFAIK, so I think this is legal, since all my characters have Ld 9. Otherwise my High Magic Archmage will be the General.

Core:
Lothern Sea Guards x25 with shields and full command
2 units of Ellyrian Reavers with bows only

So that's another 500. Looks like I'm almost there already.

Specials:
20x Swordmasters of Hoeth with 2 full command, no idea how to split them yet. Can make either 2 units or 3.
Dragon Princes of Caledor x5 + champion

Still got 25 points spare. Definitely will buy a couple of banners for the Swordmaster units. I could've gone for the standard 1 Prince for Lord and 2 Mages and a Noble for the Hero slots, but I'm not using enough points as it is.

Nah, that's okay. I'll play with what I have. Plus I don't know what to proxy them for Razz Some small details like the magic items and maybe even lore might change on route to the table tonight, I'll let you know.

Here's one thing I ALWAYS forget when I field the griffons: They have TERROR! Argh!

Also another mistake during my last game with LordAK, read the spell again and Tempest has a d6 scatter in addition to the large template.

I think I'm starting to get a hang of it.
