Space Wolves 500pts

Currently building up my Space Wolves army for 500pts, vs Doomboy (Joe)'s Doooooom necrons.

HQ
-Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf x1 (TH, SS)

ELITE
-Thunderwolf Cavalry x2 (No upgrades)

TROOPS
-Grey Hunters Pack x5 (On foot)

HEAVY SUPPORT
-Long Fangs Pack x5 (LC1 ML2)

Model count: 13



I have the following models:

-3x thunderwolves
-5x grey hunters

-5x wolfguard terminators (buying)
-5x grey hunters (unassembled)
-5x long fangs (going to buy)

*And don't want to ever collect tanks


Assuming that Doomboy has a choice of:

Necron Lords
Lynchguards
Crypteks
3 annihilators

...and that he will tend to minimise his troops, is the above SW list able to survive first contact?

Going to need advice from the sifu-sifus in the forum.

At 500pts, usually people don't really follow the FOC. Maybe min. of 1 HQ & 1 Troop choice.

If I were to play at 500pts, then I'd like to play DE. HQ - 1 Haemonculus basic. Troop - 5 Wracks basic. 3 Ravagers - 5+ invul & -6" range to enemy, 6 Disintegrators + 3 Dark Lances. Total = 475pts.

2 Rune priest with jump pack with JAWW one with MB just to make it different
5 GH troop in rhino
1 Speeder typhoon

that only 455 still got 45pts

u know, with this list you can still follow normal FOC

cuz rmbr wracks are 3 basic. so pump up your wracks to 6 or 7, divide them between two units. Voila~ legal broken DE list

in 500pts, usually 1HQ and 1Troops choice is enough.
I would suggest something thematic instead.

Start off with a Lord on Thunderwolf (I hear some of the SW players saying Canis doesn't work because of his low Leadership value).
Complement the list with one or two squads of Fenrisian Wolves.
Maximize the leftovers with Thunderwolf Cavalry and upgrades.

I noticed that you may only have 3 Thunderwolf models at the moment.
Most probably Doomboy would be nice enough to allow proxies on your side, but if he doesn't, just spend the leftover points on Long Fangs.

also bear in mind that 500 pts is to be played at 4x4 table..

Well, I don't know about it being broken, but I believe that my 500pt-DE list is thematic. My DE theme is "Cheap Is Good"!

Everything in there is cheap: 50pts HQ, 50pts Troop, Ravager @ 125pts each.

Everything in there is good: HQ with free pain-token & poison (4+) atks, Troop with free pain-token & poison (4+) atks, 3 Ravagers with combined firepowers of 18 x S5 AP2 shots & 3 x S8 AP2 Lance shots.

& I still have 25pts to spend !

Alvin / Doomboy- no problem. Can you help me get a box of Spehhhs Mehrine Devastators instead? Need to build some Long Fangs. I'll get the Wolf Guard termies at some later date.

Can you also help me order Ragnar Blackmane. Wanted that model for some 10 years but never got around to buying him.

As for the intro game, just build whatever cheesy list you want. Don't need you to go soft on me.

what's Spehhhs Mehrine Devastators??? :S

Just the normal Space Marine Devastators (heavy support weapon guys, 5 men in a box with 2 LC, 2 ML, 2PC, 2MC). I'll convert them to Long Fangs for my 500pt army.

As for what Spehhhs Mehrine is...

No idea what he's taking, so I assume lots of tanks instead of an infantry horde.

Not bad for a 500pts list. But its a waste of I5 for the lord.. since you gave him a TH.. FB work good on him.

Aha.. you ordering Ragnar too.. its a must. Only wish they came out with a new model for him.

Since IG will normally have lots of tanks, I guess I have to sacrifice the i5... Unless I pass the Thunderhammer to one of the regular Thunderwolf Cavalrymen?

I'm playing safe by building anti-tank into every single unit in this list.

Not likely to field Ragnar in low points games. Just wanted him because my first White Dwarf had a Mike McVey tutorial on painting him.

In future I'll have to add 3 rune priests with JAWWs vs Doomboy's Necrons.

Give the Lord Runic Armour. You dont want him to die from bolter/pistols before you get to reach them.

yup i second AK comment. Give him a rune armor. 2+ save keeps him alive.

Oops... too late. Should have taken the runic armour instead of storm shield. Didn't expect infantry horde. Kill point mission.

Bad deployment (too far away), Long Fangs almost wiped out by Leman Russ on first turn. After that massed laspistol torrents from 3 platoons and 3 autocannons shot the grey hunters and the thunderwolves to death.
