| Sup all.
Just joined the forums and have been giving some thought on starting an Imperial Fist army. My main objective is to paint for the sake of painting so I don't think I'll get a full out army. Maybe when the time comes, this shall be my army to work on and expand. Any suggestions on what models I should get first? I have no SM models at the moment so yeah. Thanks in advance.
Peace out. | |

| Errr... normally folks comes up with an army list first, then base on the army list they get the model... Depends on what you wanna do, if you would like to do some conversion (like different pose and all that), you can try to get a box that can built like 10 space marines, Tactical Squad would be a good start : http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440273a&prodId=prod1060074Or if you don't mind the pose and would like to paint only, you can actually get a big chuck of vanilla space marine from the previous Assault on Black Reach starter box, check the forum second hand section, used to have folks wanna sell em en-mass with a reasonable price. But be aware that what you built for your squad might not be legit in codex and if you are really new to 40k universe, the weapon does looks abit confusing (I had problem differentiate melta and flamer when I start out =p), usually a squad is 10 man, and with every 10 man you can include: - a sergeant of some sort with a power weapon/power fist (those sword, axe, huge fist, etc etc) - one or two special weapon (plasma, melta, missle launcher, flamer, etc etc, depend on codex) for you marine Or alternatively if you come in from a pure hobby angle, a diorama would be a good choice also, go look for some awesome reference picture of Imperial Fist online, get some green stuff and a box of 5 man marine and some xenos (spiky space marine, daemon, ork, tyranids, necron, whatever makes you tick), get a decent size base and some basing material, built an epic scene of Imperial Fist versus whoever =) | |

| Thanks man. Found that very helpful. I forget that my main purpose is just to enjoy the hobby and being reminded of dioramas was very helpful. Have not worked with green stuff before. Ah well... First time for everything. Thanks again.
Oh is this the correct place to be putting this topic? Apologies if it isn't.

| I always thought that Ryogo Yamane fellow to be quite inspirational with his Imperial Fist collection. Maybe you can check him out if you want to get some inspiration on collecting an Imperial Fists army. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=17700018aIt's quite a sight to behold and the painting standard is quite extraordinary. Also Lysander is liek totally awesome and shiz. :B | |

| Well, one thing about being a pure painter/modeler is that most event that related to games workshop product is resolving around building an army and rolling dice (well, this is after all, a tabletop wargaming system), even if you take part in event purely for painting award and all, it is nice to pick up how the game is play, or even better, owning a good looking army to take part in it while waiting the result of the painting event (personal experience: I took part of my first Hobby event Legio Birthday Bash on 2011 just to take part in the painting competition, not having an army for the time and not understanding any rules, I was the only participant that awkwardly trolling around admiring models and watching folks playing the big Apoc game ) By the way, you painted any minis yet? show us some minis that you have painted =) | |

| Oh man... Was impressed by the dude's army but then I started pondering over the Iron Warriors and now there's a war between Chaos and good in my head. Haha!
I have painted some ork gretchins and eldar guardians but they were when I was just beginning so they're pretty messed up. Haha! Shy la...
I guess it'll look even better in numbers so maybe I'll work on making it a small army. Shall rummage through my file of illegally downloaded codexes and see if I can come up with an army list. Maybe even win a few battles when the time is right. Thanks a lot, guys!

| You want to win battles? Come by Hobby Forge and play with me. :B
But yeah building your army list, playing some test games with friends if possible is a good way to start to get a feel on how an army plays. After that if you're comfortable with how the list works, buy the models.
And don't worry about the painting, just keep practicing. There are many tutorials online among the veterans of this community.

| I have no friends... i walk the streets alone... Armed with my bolter and chainsword, I single-handedly purge the land of xenos filth... Haha! No friends who like this hobby. Was introduced to it by my cousin in Australia. I really want to stop by Hobby Forge to pick up some models but I just can't seem to find the time. Doing an army list using Battle Scribe and reading up SM codex. Nifty lil tool, Battle Scribe. Until the day I get an army! Thanks for response! | |

| *cough* *cough* still a student and have no fixed income. So 80 bucks is quite a bit of cash. *choke* Plus, I like my army to feel a bit customised. Does that make sense? I want it to have a feel of it's own? | |
