The Sun Pirates Rides Again!!

Aku agak dah.. hahaha.. bos kasi PM aku no baru kau.

I tried the same list that fought Yip against infantry based BA list consisting of:

Dante with 5 Sanguards - 2 Melta Pistol, 1 PFist
Chaplain with 5 Terminators - 2 LC, 3 TH&SS
Corbulo with 5 Man Devastators with 4 Lasscannons
10 Man Assault Squad - 2 Melta, 1 PFist
10 Man Tactical Squad - Flamer and Missiles
5 man Devastators with 4 Plasma Cannons
5 man Devastators with 4 Missile Launchers

The game was Seize Ground (5), Pitch Battle.

Highlights :
- With Colbulo around, almost all BA unit deployed has FnP.
- Lucky the DE won the 1st turn and deny the BAs from having large terrain to hide into.
- 1st turn shooting and close combat managed to stop all BA long ranged shooty element. With that settled, there's nothing much left to stop the DE raid.
- It took some time to capture the rest of the marines. But by turn 4, every single marine was taken into slavery.
- 19 Wyches, 3 Reaver Jetbikers, and 2 Ravagers were lost in the Raid.

I was there at the scene. It was bloody.
Would like to make a similar list like AK too!

It's the same old pivoting trick that works better with DE due to being open topped :

Deploy sideways --> pivoting on the spot gives about 2.5 inches + 12 inches (move) + 2 inches (disembarkment) + 1 inch (infantry base) + D6 inches (Run) + 6 inches assault = 24 to 30 inches in a single turn.

It was a gamble on the 'Run' roll actually. The 1st unit got 5 inches and manage to reach a Devastator unit. The Succubus unit on the other hand, rolled 2, failed charge and eat bolterfire afterwards hahaha. Yeah.. it was a gamble.

I had another game yesterday, no changes to the list except that both Ravager now carries Flickerfield instead of Nightshield.

The game was Capture & Control, Dawn of War deployment against BA. The Sun Pirates won the 1st turn.

Highlights :
i. BA decides to keep Dante, 2 x 10 man Assault Marines and 5 Tacticals in reserves. Only 5 man Tactical with 1 missile was deployed on the table. 2 units will come in on the 1st turn --> LRC (with Terminators & HQs) & a Typhoon.
ii. The Typhoon were taken out in a couple of shots. But it took me 2 shooting phase (2nd & 3rd turn) involving more than 20 Darklight shots to take out the LRC. When it finally exploded (from the very last Dark Lance!!) I felt like winning the game already, such a morale victory hahaha..
iii. Dante and his boys didn't turned up until turn 5 (automatically). Things would have been so different if they came on the 2nd/3rd turn.
iv. DE win by controlling home objective and contested the one that belongs to BA.

I had one great game on Saturday. It was against them Necrons!!

The game was Annihilation, Spearhead deployment. And the Necron goes 1st.
Aniway.. I won. Hurray!!

Wtf, I had much worst game due to bad rolls than this.. Lol.

After a while, I took the Sun Pirates for another raid on Saturday. This time the target of our raid was none other than Mcraggae (Or was it Macragge? Not sure how it spelt hahaha), home of the Ultramarines!!

The Ultramarines:
Calgar + 5 Terminators - 1 Typhoon
Biker Captain + Full Biker Troops with 2 Meltagun, MMelta, PFist
5 Assault Terminators - 2 LCs, 3 TH&SS
10 man Tactical - PFist, Flamer, Missiles (in Rhino)
10 man Tactical - PFist, Flamer, Missiles (in Rhino)
5 Snipers - 1 HBolter

The raid was very much a success. It was too fast. Too sudden. The Blue boys had no chance at all.

true... i really felt for him when he could not put the termies anywhere useful... Your fast brutality really put him into a corner... Very classy DE foot work respect from one Archon to another

He should put them on table, right from the 1st turn. Not in reserve. Same with his Bikers. He learned that already.

Next time wont be so easy

Since the coming of 6th, the only 2 games I had was with my DE. Changes that I realize:

On HQs:
i. Dont take cheap HQs as Warlord coz they are like free VP to the enemy. Archon with Shadowfield is a must;
ii. Huskblade is the best weapon of choice for Archon. Take it all the time. Dont forget that it negates FnP (especially when you're fighting Corbulo!!)
iii. Blaster or Blast Pistol is now a good buy coz you dont have to choose either to shoot or to use Fleet anymore.

Troops :
i. 5 Man Warriors is still viable
ii. Wyches with haywire kills all vehicles that isn't a Flyer
iii. if open-topped vehicles explodes, each passengers now suffer S4 hits, not S3 like in 5th. So don't ever take full 10 man unit on Raider coz they'll die as fast as the vehicles.

Elites :
i. Trueborn with Splinter Cannon still rocks
ii. Dont know if I'll ever take Incubi now since they are only AP3
iii. Venom works great as always

Fast Attack :
i. Reavers gets better with Jink+Skilled Rider = constant 4+ cover (3+ when turbo boost).
ii. Reavers can now move up to 48 inches in a single turn! 36 inches was never fast enough!!
iii. In scouring.. they are scoring!

Heavy Support :
i. Razorwing is awesome, but now I'd drop Splinter cannon (can only fire 4 weapons at full BS) and take Flicker instead
ii. Razorwing wont survive dogfighting. Especially not against the likes of Stormraven and Vendetta (IMO the best Flyer around at 135pts)
iii. Ravagers must take Night Shield.

Overall :
i. Pie plates are like disaster to all MechDE. even smallblast can harm several vehicles at a time. So always watch out for distance between each vehicles.
ii. Jink saves = free Flickers (10 points). Nightfighting + Jink = 3+/4+ cover in the open. Remember to move every turn.
